Terms of use

Last updated: October 19, 2026

These terms govern the use of Icotale, an online role-playing game run by an artificial intelligence, published by Théophile Branche, entrepreneur individuel (see the legal notice). Creating an account or buying Dice means you accept these terms.

The service

Icotale lets you play role-playing games together in your browser, run by the Narrator, an artificial intelligence. Universes are either official (written by Icotale) or created by the community in the Studio.

The service is provided as is and evolves regularly; we do our best to keep it available, without any guarantee of permanent availability.

Your account

You must be at least 15 years old to create an account. Universes are age-rated (10+, 12+, 14+, 16+, 18+): those meant for an older audience are only visible once you have confirmed you are 18 from My account.

An account is personal. You are responsible for keeping your password confidential and for what is done from your account.

You can delete your account at any time from My account; deletion is permanent and any remaining Dice are lost.

Dice

Dice are an in-game currency that can only be used on Icotale: 1 Die opens a one-hour session for the whole table or extends it by one hour, and the Studio uses them to create a universe or a campaign. Dice can be added to a table’s pot or given to a friend.

They are obtained by purchase, as a welcome Die (one Die, once per registered bank card, with no charge) or as a creator reward when other tables play your universes. They do not expire, cannot be converted into money or transferred outside Icotale, and are lost when the account is deleted.

Buying Dice

Prices are shown in euros, all taxes included, before payment. Payment is handled by Link, Stripe’s payment service, which acts as the merchant of record (“Sold through Link”): it collects the price, applies your country’s VAT, emails you the receipt and appears on your bank statement as LINK.COM*. Link’s terms apply to the payment; Icotale never receives your card details.

Dice are credited to your account as soon as payment is confirmed. As digital content supplied immediately, you request its supply before the end of the 14-day withdrawal period and acknowledge that you lose this right once the Dice are credited (article L221-28 13° of the French Consumer Code).

You benefit from the legal guarantee of conformity for digital content (articles L224-25-1 et seq. of the same code): if purchased Dice are not credited or cannot be used, write to us at support@icotale.com or contact Link support to have them credited or refunded. A refunded or disputed payment removes the corresponding Dice from your balance.

Created content

You remain the author of the universes, campaigns and texts you create. By publishing them, you grant Icotale, for as long as they are published and worldwide, a free, non-exclusive licence to host, translate, display and illustrate them and to let tables play them. Games already played keep their story.

You certify that your creations are original and do not reuse a protected work (other people’s characters, universes or texts). Creations published for the community are reviewed by the moderation team before going live.

Conduct at the table

Respect the other players, the veils chosen by the table and the universes’ age ratings. The following are forbidden: harassment, hateful or discriminatory speech, sexual content involving minors, glorification of terrorism, sharing other people’s personal data, payment fraud and any attempt to misuse the Narrator or the service (automation, exploiting a flaw). Details are in the code of conduct.

Reports and moderation

Every player can report a universe, a campaign, a player or a passage of the story with the “Report” button. Anyone, even without an account, can also report illegal content to support@icotale.com, stating where it is and why it is a problem.

Reports and creations published for the community are reviewed by people; an automated tool may help sort cases, but it never decides. Depending on severity, moderation may ask for a correction, remove content or suspend an account.

Decisions about your creations are notified to you with their reason; in case of suspension, the reason is given on request. You can challenge a decision by writing to support@icotale.com: it will be reviewed again.

The Narrator

The Narrator is an artificial intelligence: its stories are generated automatically and may contain mistakes, inconsistencies or unexpected passages — feel free to report them. What you write at the table is passed to it as game data, never as instructions.

Dice rolls are made by our servers, never by the artificial intelligence or your browser. Universe covers are illustrations generated by artificial intelligence.

Liability

Icotale is responsible for properly providing the service under consumer law. It cannot be held liable for content written by players or creators, nor for an interruption caused by a third party (host, payment provider, language model provider) or by force majeure. Nothing in these terms limits your rights as a consumer.

Changes, applicable law and disputes

These terms may change; any significant change will be announced before it takes effect, and you remain free to delete your account. They are governed by French law, without depriving you of the more protective rules of your country of residence.

If you have a complaint, write to support@icotale.com first. If no solution is found, you can use the consumer mediator free of charge: —.
